to support a Cork team that contains two of our senior players, Linda
Dorgan and Leah Weste . Coaches' cars, trains are all heading north
carrying the Ballincollig army of supporters to cheer the girls on
Sunday 16th. They aren't the only girls from Ballincollig playing in
Dublin that day. Our U10's and U12's will be playing friendly matches
against Faugh's Celtic Camogie Club in Templeogue. These girls have
been travelling all summer from Ballinhassig to Kilkenny, west to
Killarney and now to Dublin. They will go anywhere for a game of
Camogie and a good day out. Of course this trip is extra special and
we hope that Linda and Leah will bring back the O'Duffy cup to round
off what has been a very busy but wonderful summer of Camogie for
everyone in the clubs under age section. Watch out for match reports
in next week's newsletter.
sessions last weekend. It was a beautiful warm morning and lots of
girls could be seen practicing their skills in the GAA grounds. Girls
between the ages of 7 and 13 were striking, blocking, hooking, and
soloing. Most importantly all the girls were having fun. The large
number of girls playing really is a sight to behold. This busy hive of
activity all bodes well for our club. There was a lot of talent on
display. If you'd like your daughter to join our underage Camogie Club
feel free to come down any Sunday morning from 12.15 to 13.15.Ballincollig Camogie Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00456083321847092312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5339381066972796052.post-79511496374746529352012-09-03T21:02:00.001+01:002012-09-11T21:05:01.631+01:00U10 Blitz in BallinhassigLast Saturday our U10 team travelled to Ballinhassig to take part in
the annual Donal Crowley Blitz. This is one of the highlights in the
U10 calendar and as usual everyone had a great day. Our first game was
against Eire Og. The girls really hit the ground running in this game.
We saw Sophie O'Sullivan, Zara Foley and Nicole Kirstein getting goals
in a very tight match. Miriam Healy was her usual solid self in
defence and Amy Murphy worked tirelessly in midfield supporting both
forwards and backs at all times. Our next game was against the hosts
Ballinhassig. This was a really tight affair as both teams were evenly
matched. It was Eanna O'Connell up front that made the difference in
this game. Allana O'Sullivan and Claire Murphy played their part in
setting Eanna up for the only goal of the game, while at the other end
Kate O'Sullivan kept the Ballinhassig goal attempts out with a
coolness that you'd normally see int he Arctic Circle. Our final group
match was against Barryroe and our forwards really got rocking and
rolling in this game. Zara and Nicole were on the score sheet again
with Abbie O'Sullivan and Amy O'Rourke, Ellie Ronayne got two and Anna
Cremin Butler scored from half way. A fantastic way to round off the
group stages.

We went onto play our neighbours Eire Og for the second time on the
day in the Semi final. This was a great semi final with both teams
giving their all in a great display of camogie enjoyed by what was now
a very large crowd. Captain for the day Caoimhe Creedon led by example
for the whole game giving her all. Lauren Buckley despite being tired
pushed hard up front along with all her team mates to try to get an
equalizer but alas it was not to be. Eire Og went through and went on
to win the final. Our girls and mentors were disappointed but not for
long. The chips and sausages brought their smiles back and it meant we
left Ballinhassig with more fond memories of another great day out.

The mentors Mossie, Eileen Denis and Michael and all the supporters on
the day had a great day thanks to these wonderful girls. Well done to
you all. Everyone involved, players, mentors, parents and supporters
want to also say a big thank you to Jess Hennigan for being our club
ref on the day. We would like to congratulate her on winning a Munster
Junior medal the next day playing for Cork against Tipperary.Ballincollig Camogie Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00456083321847092312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5339381066972796052.post-67876917196014897342012-09-03T21:02:00.000+01:002012-09-11T21:04:46.270+01:00Under 16Very tough challenge game last Saturday we now know how high the
will again play Ballygarvan in Ballincollig on
MONDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER to see who will progress to the County Semi Final
on Sunday 9th September against Sliabh Rua.
The girls have put in tremendous preparations of hard work, attendance
at training and challenge matches, and the mentors had difficulity in
picking the starting 15 due to the efforts by each and every player;
and over the past two matches we have introduced players and all girls
are prepared and ready to play and play as a unit with one goal - a
place in the County Semi Finals.... the gloves are now off and only 1
team will survive and progress........... Match report next week.
As a Club we are very lucky to have the excellent Down Family of Downs
previous years the family get behind the Camogie Club and this year it
was the turn of the Junior Team to receive new gear....... the Junior
gear in use presently was handed down from the present senior team and
after 9 years it was time for its retirement..... The new gear fully
sponsored by the Down Family was presented at the GAA Grounds on
Friday 24th August and was accepted by Junior Club Captain, Louise
Weste. On hand at the presentation were Barry Down and Captain Louise
Weste....... Barry was invited into the Club to a reception and Club
Chairman, Finbarr Bradley, and captain, Louise Weste both thanked the
Down Family for their continued support; there was a great attendance
of the Club Officers, committee and players and a lovely evening was
had by all.... Once again a huge thanks for the gear and we hope to do
you proud....
This weekend thirteen enthusiastic Under 8 girls represented
Ballincollig in an exciting Camogie Gala weekend in Castle Road. Two
teams played against Sarsfields in two equally balanced matches. The
games consisted of three periods giving the girls an opportunity to
play in all the different positions on the field.

In team A Ciara O Donovan gave a masterful display in midfield,
Sorcha McCarthys puck outs reached the far end of the pitch, Chloe
Bernardi was resolute in defence and in goals. Lily Carey Murphy
controlled her zone and was a prolific goal-scorer. Áine Creedon was
fantastic in the forwards and birthday girl Emma Lynch rushed from the
sideline (after treatment for an injury) to score a super goal.

Team B also gave a wonderful performance on the day. Meabh Dempsey was
a credit to her team, Meabh Power's work-rate as ever was second to
none, Ailbhe Hickey brought strength and leadership to the mid-field,
Ciara O Brien was fearless in the tackle, Hazel Power was a busy
beaver all through the game, Kate Lee, who stayed focused throughout,
contributed in all the zones and the experienced Aoibhinn O Flynn
played with characteristic tenacity.

Having played their hearts out through torrential downpours the sun
finally came out just in time to dry them off for the presentation.
The girls were delighted to receive cúl pink camogie wristbands and
groovy mini gear bags. A great day was had by all!
and this past week they were in Kilkenny playing a team from Galway.
Cork were playing Galway in the Semi Final of the senior All Ireland
and Ballincollig were invited to represent Cork at half time in an U10
go games match. It was a great honour for the club to be asked and
fitting also as we had two players from the Ballincollig senior team
involved in the Cork squad. The U10 girls as well as the senior
players Linda Dorgan and Leah Weste did the green and white of
Ballincollig proud on a beautiful day in Nolan Park. The bus journey
up to Kilkenny seemed to fly by really quickly and we actually arrived
earlier than the Cork team coach. The U10 team went for a little puck
around on the Nolan Park pitch to loosen out the limbs after the bus
journey up. Then it was a case of team pictures on the pitch before
checking out the programme which included their own team list. The
girls met Marty Morrisey and got pictures taken with him too. They all
enjoyed watching the first half of the Cork Galway game and then it
was the girls moment to shine. And shine they did, it was a very short
game so the girls gave it everything. Nobody was over awed about
playing in front of such a large crowd and the reception that all four
U10 teams received at the end of their game brought a huge smile to
all the girls already beaming faces. We then settled down to watch the
exciting second half of the Cork Galway game. Cork deservedly won and
are now through to the All Ireland Final in September. The
Ballincollig girls formed a guard of honour for the Wexford team as
they came out for the second semi final V's Offaly. Then there was
more photos, this time with Linda and Leah so we now have a record of
the day all twelve Ballincollig girls played at the All ireland semi
final. We watched some of the second game before we hopped onto the
bus for home, but before we got on the bus the girls were delighted to
have the opportunity to meet the Cork team and to get autographs on
hurleys, helmets and programmes. We stopped for our tea in Cahir and
continued on our merry way home. The bus pulled into the club right on
schedule. We couldn't have planned the day to have been any better. Of
course we must thank all the people that helped on the day and before
hand to make the whole experience go as well as it did. Thanks to
Michelle for organising the flags, thanks to Sean, Denis and Jess for
looking after the team on the day. Thanks to Erika for providing the
markers for the autographs. We must also thank Niamh and Debbie who
looked after the girls through out the day. Thanks to Leah and Linda
for spending a bit of time with the girls for photos after their
momentous effort to get to the All Ireland Final. We wish you and all
the Cork team the very best in Croke Park. Last but not least we have
to complement the U10 girls who represented the club in such a
wonderful manner both on and off the pitch You were all a credit to
the club, your families and yourselves. Well done to you all and
hopefully in a few years time we'll be going to support some of you in
Nolan park in the red and white of Cork.Ballincollig Camogie Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00456083321847092312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5339381066972796052.post-23341670122686605682012-08-21T20:45:00.000+01:002012-09-11T20:50:55.120+01:00End of Summer LeaguesOur under age girls completed a hectic programme of games through out
the summer as part of the County Boards GO Games Summer leagues. All
this effort will culminate in a weekend of non stop camogie action in
the County Boards headquarters in Castle Road this weekend. We
encourage all parents to give your daughters the chance to play in
these wonderful blitzes, they deserve the chance as they have worked
hard during the year to get to this stage. We will have a great day of
fun and camogie and it should turn out to be the highlight of the
camogie year. Watch out for texts from your mentors and please let
them know if you will be attending or not. It is important that we
have definite numbers for the organisers to allow them to plan out the
programme.

The blitzes will run as follows
inter county U -15 competitions were organised .
Lauren Cooper and Ciara O'Callaghan were selected from Ballincollig
after trials were held to participate in the 2012 Cork U-15
developement programme.
Over the past few weeks competitions were held in Clare, Limerick and
Kilkenny and the girls played a total of 10 very competitive
games. Both girls performed very well on the playing field and were a
credit to there club coaches. The experience gained by playing against
the likes of Clare, Galway, Kilkenny ,Limerick and Dublin will
certainly stand to the girls in there forthcoming league and
championship fixtures. The development programme finished last
Saturday when all participating counties were paraded around Nowlan
Park at the all Ireland semi-finals and gave our girls a chance to
support there club mates Linda and Leah in the Senior game.
Well done to Ciara and Lauren.Ballincollig Camogie Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00456083321847092312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5339381066972796052.post-89680222705155157872012-08-21T20:39:00.000+01:002012-09-11T20:50:08.794+01:00HELP Needed !The under age section in Ballincollig Camogie Club has grown from
strength to strength in the last number of years. The number of teams
now playing has grown from 3 to 8, more than doubling the number of
girls playing camogie in our town. Of course this is fantastic news
but brings with it extra pressures for all the adults involved in
running the under age section in the club. The girls who turn up every
week to play and train deserve the best training we can give them. We
need new trainers to come on board and help these girls fill their
potential. As usual the organisers in the club are working away in the
background making plans for the winter indoor training sessions and
organising things so we can hit the ground running in the spring of
2013
Due to the welcome increase in numbers over the last few years, we are
looking for help in training our Underage groups for the coming season
2012 Indoor training and 2013 playing Season.

Whether you are a parent whose child plays or you are a past /present
player and would like to help out in any way possible, please contact
Brendan on 087 6145532 or Linda on 086 1938646 to discuss further.
They won't bite you and don't please don't let inexperience prevent
you from joining. Every contribution helps and you will get plenty
help and advice from the other trainers. You will be up and running no
time! The girls really appreciate having adults around to train and
encourage them in a lovely friendly atmosphere.
We look forward to hearing from youBallincollig Camogie Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00456083321847092312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5339381066972796052.post-90236818148435285042012-08-21T20:38:00.000+01:002012-09-11T20:49:48.408+01:00SeniorSenior Championship v St Catherines on Monday next at Castle Road in

We face St Catherines on Monday in the championship and while training
has gone reasonibly well over the last couple of weeks, no doubt we
will need to play to our very best to overcome this huge challenge.
Please come along to support the girls as strong encouragement from
the supporters may provide the extra incentive to get over the line.
Also, congratulations to Linda and Leah who will be in Croke Park on
Tipperary in a playoff match, the winners were straight through to the
Quarterfinals and a match less to play so a lot at stake......
They had enjoyed the excellent facilities of Ballincollig the previous
weekend and requested a return visit so as always the Club again
worked wonders in a short turnaround time.
It was a beautiful sunny day, and the pitch looked fantastic, and the
result was as good a win for Cork and job well done.
Again on duty - we had people doing the gates, parking, dressing
rooms, catering, baking, score board and general help. A huge thanks
to
Declan, Frank, Eugene, Domonic, Kieran, Brendan, Philip, David, Adele,
Eileen, Linda L, Breda, Liam, Daniel, Claire, Emer (our baker),
Michael for the flags and work, and Kathleen... again both the Camogie
and GAA pulled together and we had a fantastic day and plenty of help.
As always fair play to the men who had the pitch looking and playing
so well......
Again well done to Linda who started in the full forward line for Cork
DATE: SUNDAY 29TH JULY
VENUE: BALLYGARVAN
TIME: 5PM SHARP
Please support this great group of girls who have worked hard and
prepared well for championship
over the past number of months, despite holidays, injuries and work
all girls have pulled together and we are looking forward to our first
championship match.
We can then all travel on to Belgooly to support the Intermediate
hurlers as they take on Carrigaline and we wish them the best of luck
at 7pm.
Minors - are having a quite time at present on the playing field,
however, now that first round of senior championship is over, and very
hard luck to the girls on Monday night, and girls are returning from
holiday we shall get organised again for training and a possible

scoreline last Monday in Mahon. It was a frustrating performance where
we struggled to get on top throughout the field with only a few of the
team performing to potential. Nevertheless no one could fault the
effort as everyone tried their very best but alas "it was not to be".
However, in times of disappointment we need to look at the positives,
certainly we know we can perform much better and also we know that
everyone kept fighting right to the bitter end. We now await the draw
for the 2nd round. Best wishes to our juniors who are playing
championship on Sunday. Finally a sincere "thanks" to everyone who
came out on a miserable night to support the team, it was very much
appreciated.Ballincollig Camogie Clubhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00456083321847092312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5339381066972796052.post-52424022350592821482012-07-22T22:04:00.001+01:002012-07-22T22:04:21.373+01:00U7, U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13

U7 This bunch of girls are really getting their act together. Despite
the poor weather they are turning up every Sunday morning having fun
and learning loads of camogie skills. These girls are now well able to
strike, block and dribble the ball. As you can see in the photo it's
all smiles from these girls who love their camogie and love having fun
together along with their trainers Michael, Bairbre Susan and Brendan.

U8 Training Sunday – 10.30am – 11.30am

U10 The girls played in a very entertaining game in Carrigaline this
week as part of their summer league. As was noted by someone in the
large crowd these girls are really gelling as a team. No superstars
but a great team ethic sees these girls playing brilliant camogie.
Some great goalkeeping by Amy O Rourke kept the team in a tight
contest. Sophie O Sullivan scored in the first half and Ellie scored
from half way in the second half and jumped for joy!!!!. As we said it
was a team performance and everyone played well. The girls have one
more game against the Glen to complete and their summer programme will
be done and dusted and we'll be all set for the big blitz in Castle
Road at the end of August. These girls have been given a well earned
rest and will be back training on August 12th in preparation for the
summer blitz. Mossie, Michael Eileen and Denis hope all the girls have
a great summer and are planing some more skill training for you all
when you return.
We hope all our ladies in France, Spain, Portugal and Kerry are
took on neighbours Bishopstown to help with preparations. With
holidays and injuries we had 16 players available and were delighted
with their attitude and work rate on the night.
Aisling Hen started in goal and had an excellent outing, she finished
in the back line as Leanne Doyle (Under 16 keeper) took up the mantel
in goal and again did very well.
Out field our backs of Lisa, Laura D and Louise kept a tight rein on
the strong Bishopstown forwards and worked hard over the hour.... our
half backs of Fiona, Nicola and Kate, did a good job over the hour and
worked very hard.
Midfield pairing of Sinead and Mairead O Dwyer (just back from injury)
had to work very hard to keep a strong Bishopstown midfield from
dominating.
Half forward of Emma, Orlaith and Claire kept a plentiful supply of
ball going into our full forward line and also setting up scoring
chances and taking some scores themselves, full forward line of
Aisling W, Chloe and Laura Barrett, took the opportunities and got on
the score board.
We again had scores coming from 5 forwards and we were delighted with
our 3-8 on the night.
Our thanks to Bishopstown for travelling and wish them well in their
championship.
Saturday 14th, it was a very successful day for Cork and they achieved
victory in both games. As host club we were delighted that Linda
Dorgan and Leah Weste again featured in the senior game with Linda
again getting on the score board.... there were many club supporters
around and all were delighted to see the girls representing their
county... our own underage club were out in force to see the girls and
shouted loud in their support.
The day went without a hitch and this was due to the enormous help by
the GAA personnel and Camogie members.

A special thanks to
• Declan, Frank, Dominic and Eugene who were on gate duty
• Liam, Kieran, Pat, Ger, Brendan, David for the car parking, dressing
room duty and all round help....
• Michael for his help with the flags and tidy-up,
• Daniel Barry for the excellent and accurate score board keeping.
• John McAvoy to make sure it was all recorded on camera
• To our special catering staff, who are just top class - Breda,
Judith and Celia who were there all day and in mighty form
• Kathleen Healy who took time off work to give us a hand to ensure
our helpers, the Board Officers, Club members and everyone who needed
it was 'watered and fed' with the best of food generously supplied by
O'Keeffe's Bakery - A HUGE THANK YOU TO THEM -
• Our special little baker EMER O'BRIEN - your cup cakes were a huge
success and you were very generous in giving out all your hints to
help us get to your very high standards..... not a cake was to be had
in a very short time... a good business venture for the future for
you!!!
• and in general to anyone who gave assistance on the day......
We were delighted to see our Under 11's doing guard of honour on the
day as the Cork Senior Team and Kilkenny Senior Team entered the pitch
and also playing at the half time break in the Senior game and a huge
thanks to team mentor Linda for organising all the teams to be there
on time and also fellow team mentors Frank and Ian who were a
tremendous help on the day....
The pitch, despite the terrible weather for the previous week, was in
good condition and looked as always brilliant - this is down to the
extremely hard working grounds men in the Club - led by top man JOHN
PURCELL - the unknown hours given by these wonderful men cannot be
imagined or appreciated enough but WE thank them and the Cork Camogie
Board also sent their thanks for the wonderful and extremely well run
day and compliments to the both the Ballincollig GAA and Camogie
Cashel. We played against a strong wind in the first half and found it
hard to get into our stride. At the half time whistle we were 11
points behind our opponents, Moneygall. In the second half we played
with a much higher level of desire and intensity and approaching the
final few minutes we had drawn level. However Moneygall finished
stronger and we lost on a 3-9 to 1-12 scoreline. Well done to everyone
for the superb effort. We now face the tremendous challenge of St
Finbarrs in the championship next Monday 23rd at 7.30 in Castle Road.
All support would be very welcome. Congratulations to both Leah and
Linda who played for Cork in the comprehensive win over Kilkenny which
was played in Ballincollig last Saturday. Both will again be involved
