Senior All Ireland Playoff

Once again the Cork Senior Team returned to Ballincollig to play
Tipperary in a playoff match, the winners were straight through to the
Quarterfinals and a match less to play so a lot at stake......
They had enjoyed the excellent facilities of Ballincollig the previous
weekend and requested a return visit so as always the Club again
worked wonders in a short turnaround time.
It was a beautiful sunny day, and the pitch looked fantastic, and the
result was as good a win for Cork and job well done.
Again on duty - we had people doing the gates, parking, dressing
rooms, catering, baking, score board and general help. A huge thanks
to
Declan, Frank, Eugene, Domonic, Kieran, Brendan, Philip, David, Adele,
Eileen, Linda L, Breda, Liam, Daniel, Claire, Emer (our baker),
Michael for the flags and work, and Kathleen... again both the Camogie
and GAA pulled together and we had a fantastic day and plenty of help.
As always fair play to the men who had the pitch looking and playing
so well......
Again well done to Linda who started in the full forward line for Cork
and Leah Weste who is getting closer to a starting place...

hard luck to the girls on Monday night, and girls are returning from

match.
all Minor and Junior queries to Mairead .

Senior

Defeat was our lot in the championship v St Finbarrs on a 2-10 to 1-6
scoreline last Monday in Mahon. It was a frustrating performance where
we struggled to get on top throughout the field with only a few of the
team performing to potential. Nevertheless no one could fault the
effort as everyone tried their very best but alas "it was not to be".
However, in times of disappointment we need to look at the positives,
certainly we know we can perform much better and also we know that
everyone kept fighting right to the bitter end. We now await the draw
for the 2nd round. Best wishes to our juniors who are playing
championship on Sunday. Finally a sincere "thanks" to everyone who
came out on a miserable night to support the team, it was very much
appreciated.

Sunday 22 July 2012

U7, U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13

U7 This bunch of girls are really getting their act together. Despite
the poor weather they are turning up every Sunday morning having fun
and learning loads of camogie skills. These girls are now well able to
strike, block and dribble the ball. As you can see in the photo it's
all smiles from these girls who love their camogie and love having fun
together along with their trainers Michael, Bairbre Susan and Brendan.

U8 Training Sunday – 10.30am – 11.30am

U10 The girls played in a very entertaining game in Carrigaline this
week as part of their summer league. As was noted by someone in the
large crowd these girls are really gelling as a team. No superstars
but a great team ethic sees these girls playing brilliant camogie.
Some great goalkeeping by Amy O Rourke kept the team in a tight
contest. Sophie O Sullivan scored in the first half and Ellie scored
from half way in the second half and jumped for joy!!!!. As we said it
was a team performance and everyone played well. The girls have one
more game against the Glen to complete and their summer programme will
be done and dusted and we'll be all set for the big blitz in Castle
Road at the end of August. These girls have been given a well earned
rest and will be back training on August 12th in preparation for the
summer blitz. Mossie, Michael Eileen and Denis hope all the girls have
a great summer and are planing some more skill training for you all
when you return.

U11 Training Sunday – 10.30am – 11.30am
U13 Training Sunday – 11.00am – 12.00pm

MINOR

With a number of girls not available as they are preparing for Senior
Championship and holidays we have cancelled the Minor Session,
however, all girls are welcome to join the Junior Sessions if not
training with their own Under 16 Team....
Tx messages will be sent of the times and venue.
We hope all our ladies in France, Spain, Portugal and Kerry are
enjoying their break and we need you back training for championship as
soon as you are back.
Our apologies for Louise Weste, we thanked all the helpers last week
and omitted Louise who was are score keeper for the day and kept us
all on our toes.... Well done and thanks Louise.

JUNIOR

this group continue to train for championship and with this in mind we
took on neighbours Bishopstown to help with preparations. With
holidays and injuries we had 16 players available and were delighted
with their attitude and work rate on the night.
Aisling Hen started in goal and had an excellent outing, she finished
in the back line as Leanne Doyle (Under 16 keeper) took up the mantel
in goal and again did very well.
Out field our backs of Lisa, Laura D and Louise kept a tight rein on
the strong Bishopstown forwards and worked hard over the hour.... our
half backs of Fiona, Nicola and Kate, did a good job over the hour and
worked very hard.
Midfield pairing of Sinead and Mairead O Dwyer (just back from injury)
had to work very hard to keep a strong Bishopstown midfield from
dominating.
Half forward of Emma, Orlaith and Claire kept a plentiful supply of
ball going into our full forward line and also setting up scoring
chances and taking some scores themselves, full forward line of
Aisling W, Chloe and Laura Barrett, took the opportunities and got on
the score board.
We again had scores coming from 5 forwards and we were delighted with
our 3-8 on the night.
Our thanks to Bishopstown for travelling and wish them well in their
championship.
TRAINING:-
WEDNESDAY 7 - 8.15PM
FRIDAY 7 - 8.15PM
SUNDAY 9AM to 10.15am
We are getting close to championship and working towards SUNDAY 29TH
JULY 2012 in Ballygarvan - time TBA.

CAMOGIE ALL IRELAND DAY IN BALLINCOLLIG ON SATURDAY 14TH JULY

Ballincollig hosted Cork V Kilkenny in both Senior and Intermediate on
Saturday 14th, it was a very successful day for Cork and they achieved
victory in both games. As host club we were delighted that Linda
Dorgan and Leah Weste again featured in the senior game with Linda
again getting on the score board.... there were many club supporters
around and all were delighted to see the girls representing their
county... our own underage club were out in force to see the girls and
shouted loud in their support.
The day went without a hitch and this was due to the enormous help by
the GAA personnel and Camogie members.

A special thanks to
• Declan, Frank, Dominic and Eugene who were on gate duty
• Liam, Kieran, Pat, Ger, Brendan, David for the car parking, dressing
room duty and all round help....
• Michael for his help with the flags and tidy-up,
• Daniel Barry for the excellent and accurate score board keeping.
• John McAvoy to make sure it was all recorded on camera
• To our special catering staff, who are just top class - Breda,
Judith and Celia who were there all day and in mighty form
• Kathleen Healy who took time off work to give us a hand to ensure
our helpers, the Board Officers, Club members and everyone who needed
it was 'watered and fed' with the best of food generously supplied by
O'Keeffe's Bakery - A HUGE THANK YOU TO THEM -
• Our special little baker EMER O'BRIEN - your cup cakes were a huge
success and you were very generous in giving out all your hints to
help us get to your very high standards..... not a cake was to be had
in a very short time... a good business venture for the future for
you!!!
• and in general to anyone who gave assistance on the day......
We were delighted to see our Under 11's doing guard of honour on the
day as the Cork Senior Team and Kilkenny Senior Team entered the pitch
and also playing at the half time break in the Senior game and a huge
thanks to team mentor Linda for organising all the teams to be there
on time and also fellow team mentors Frank and Ian who were a
tremendous help on the day....
The pitch, despite the terrible weather for the previous week, was in
good condition and looked as always brilliant - this is down to the
extremely hard working grounds men in the Club - led by top man JOHN
PURCELL - the unknown hours given by these wonderful men cannot be
imagined or appreciated enough but WE thank them and the Cork Camogie
Board also sent their thanks for the wonderful and extremely well run
day and compliments to the both the Ballincollig GAA and Camogie
Clubs.
A massive achievement to everyone involved and our heartfelt thanks to
all who made it happen.

Senior

Disappointment was our lot in the Munster League Final last Sunday in
Cashel. We played against a strong wind in the first half and found it
hard to get into our stride. At the half time whistle we were 11
points behind our opponents, Moneygall. In the second half we played
with a much higher level of desire and intensity and approaching the
final few minutes we had drawn level. However Moneygall finished
stronger and we lost on a 3-9 to 1-12 scoreline. Well done to everyone
for the superb effort. We now face the tremendous challenge of St
Finbarrs in the championship next Monday 23rd at 7.30 in Castle Road.
All support would be very welcome. Congratulations to both Leah and
Linda who played for Cork in the comprehensive win over Kilkenny which
was played in Ballincollig last Saturday. Both will again be involved
this weekend and hopefully they will again be on the winning team.

Ballincollig Credit Union floodlit tournament final
The delayed final was eventually played last Sunday week with a great
game between Inniscarra and Ballygarvan. Even though the floodlit
tournament was delayed, the game provided the perfect preparation for
upcoming championship. Congratulations to Inniscarra who were
deserving winners on the night. Finally a very sincere 'thank you' to
Ballincollig Credit Union for sponsoring the competition once again
this year

MINOR

Ballincollig were host to the inaugural Minor Super Summer 7's
Tournament on Saturday July 7th.
The weather was the kindest it has been for a number of weeks and the
sun shone on our day of camogie.
There were four teams Ballincollig, Milford, Eire Og and Cloughduv.
Our panel available on the day were Sinead O Sullivan; Jess Hennigan,
Aisling Hennigan, Chloe Hennigan, Leanne Doyle, Lauren Cooper, Kate
Green, Julia Dineen, Sarah McAvoy, Shannen O Brien, Rachel
Nevin............... Club captain Laura Barry was there to support the
girls but unable to play due to injury..
The matches kicked off at 12 noon and our first match was against
Milford, this was a tough battle and the 8 minute half's went very
quickly, changes were made quickly and all girls got match time on the
pitch....... Aisling Hen who is our goalie got time outfield and
Leanne stepped in between the posts......
All girls gave a great account of themselves and moved around the
pitch to all the positions, backs became forwards who became
midfielders who then were forwards so it was an excellent outing for
all the girls.
We then pitted ourselves against the eventual winners Eire Og - again
a very tough encounter but all girls worked hard and despite the
immense heat we had some outstanding performances.....
Our final outing was against Cloughduv - again a very tight affair but
all girls were working hard and again we moved players around to the
different positions to take advantage of the games to see the
potential and adaptability of the girls......... all girls got game
time. It is was overall a good outing and the players. mentors and
supporters got to see some lovely camogie and also the SUN!!!!!!!!!!
After the hard days work of playing camogie we retired to the Club
where the parents of the Minors excelled, we had a fantastic spread of
food for our own girls and also for our visitors.... Eire Og,
Cloughduv and ourselves enjoyed the refreshments and our two referees
on the day Ger Sheehan and Ger Moran.... the food was fantastic and
Norma's cakes with our 'green & white' colours were definitely the
'icing on the cake'.... A huge thanks to the parents for the fab food
and a special thanks to Norma, Kitty, Breda, Claire & Ann who worked
so hard in the kitchen with the preparations and the tidy up after.
Training will be on Sundays at present and will be reviewed when
Senior Championship is played on Sunday 22nd July.

JUNIOR

We are now in championship training and working hard on preparations
for our first match against Ballygarvan on Sunday 29th July.
We hope to have played a challenge match by the weekend again in preparation.
Continued training is important for all players - so keep up the good work.
The Juniors were delighted to support their selector, Linda Dorgan,
and watch her score in the recent match against Offaly in Pairc Ui
Chaoimh and also to see Leah Weste making her championship debut at
the same match. Well done on their great win.
TRAINING:
WEDNESDAY - 7 - 8.15PM
FRIDAY 7PM - 8.15PM
SUNDAY 9AM TO 10.15PM
MINORS 10.15AM - 11.15AM

Senior

All roads lead to Cashel on Sunday morning at 11am to play Moneygall
in the Munster League Final. Best wishes to the girls in this match
which is ideal preparation for the championship on 22nd. We also had a
solid win in the Cork League last Monday night v Valley Rovers which
keeps us in a good position to progress.

Monday 9 July 2012

JUNIOR B

We finished our Munster Summer League with a match against Youghal on
Wednesday 27th June on Pitch 1 - it was a dreadful night weather wise
to play and after a very quite and indifferent first half the team
took off... we went in at the half 3 goals 1 point down - and Youghal
were good for their lead...... but
a different attitude and a good team talk and we took off in the
second half - the rain was torrential but the camogie played was very
good despite the wet conditions............. in this half we scored 5
gls & 1 point and still got beaten by the one score; so pride was
restored and fair play to all involved.
We had available nearly the full panel available, however, we still
have a few recovering from off and on injuries and some heading off on
their holidays so the panel as a whole work hard at training as each
player never knows what position they may have to play in.
Aisling in goal, could do very little about the scores against her and
worked hard over the hours with her long puc outs taking pressure
off.... our defence had a torrid time in the first half but did very
well in the second half, Louise, Rachel, Laura Barry (who had to
retire with an injury), Jenny Cotter, Laura Driscoll, Fiona O Brien,
Lisa O Callaghan (back from hols); the midfield changed a bit over the
night but all there worked very hard - Jenny Ryle and Claire Ryan
(injured in 2nd half), subs Aisling Walsh and Catriona Ni Chathasaigh
In the forward line, Orlaith J led the charge from centre forward and
was ably assisted by Chloe Hennigan, Mia Cronin, Laura Barrett, AOife
O Neill, Emma Donovan, Subs Kate O Dwyer, Mairead O Dywer & Catriona
Ni Chathasaigh,
We got some quality scores on the night and finished the evening with
some well earned sandwiches and tea in the club bar, so thanks to
Richie and Staff for accommodating us and to our 'guardian angel' for
the lovely chocolate cake.....
The match was refereed by Colette O Mahony who did a very good job
despite the awful weather and underfoot conditions ....

This year we played better and tougher matches over the league and we
are delighted with the preparations for championship.

We wish Ciara Riordan and Mia Cronin the very best of luck as they are
now on the Senior Panel.....

A speedy recovery to Aoife, Jenny, Laura - championship is getting closer.

MINOR

Ballincollig are hosting the Cork B Grade Minor 7-a-side Tournament on
Saturday, the start time is 12 noon... we would love your support and
its sure to be a great day four teams involved are ballincollig ,
Cloughduv, Eire Og and Milford the best of luck to all.....

TRAINING;
JUNIOR - WEDNESDAY 7 - 8.15pm; FRIDAY 7 - 8.15PM AND SUNDAY 9AM

but all players/parents will be notified by tx message.

We have had 2 really good wins in the past 2 weeks. Firstly in the
Munster League semi final we had our best team performance of the year
to record a win over Silvermines. We face Moneygall in the final and
this promises to be a very well contested game as we previously drew
in the 1st round match. The Munster Final (yes we are in a Munster
Final) hasn't yet been fixed. Then last Sunday we recorded a good win
over Barryroe in the Cork Summer League. We are due to play Valley
Rovers this Monday at 7.30 in the next game. C'mon girls, keep up the
super effort that has been evident over the past month and we will be
ready for a tremendous game in the championship which is only just
around the corner.

On Saturday next July 7th the Cork Senior Camogie team play Offaly in
Pairc Ui Chaoimh at 5pm as a double header with the Cork v Offaly
hurling game.
Having lost out last weekend to Wexford the team need SUPPORT in this
game and the following weeekend when they play Kilkenny in Cork
GET BEHIND OUR CORK CAMOGIE GIRLS AS THEY BID FOR AN ALL IRELAND TITLE.
