Under 14

Ballincollig vs. Douglas
We played Douglas last Thursday in their community pitch. 16 girls
travelled to the game. This was a game of two very different halves.
The final score saw Douglas victorious, but we did hold them scoreless
in the second half.
Sarah took up position in goal for the day, doing her team a huge
favour, as we were short numbers. Sarah used the wings for her puck
outs and picked out free players in her passes. After a great save in
the second half, we might see her in goal again.
In the full back line: Katie marked tight. At one stage Katie carried
the ball from the goal mouth well in to mid field, to make she her
team was out of danger. Rachel found herself in full back, this was a
new position for Rachel but she proved herself as a strong player,
blocking down any high ball and clearing well. Sophie played in corner
back and marked well. Sophie showed some great skill in picking and
clearing the ball.
In the half backline: Kerry was running for the whole match. Kerry is
a very reliable player, few balls got passed her on the day and
anything that did pass she chased and made sure to get it back again.
Marley showed her strength as a reliable half back. Marley played in
this position last year and plays as a confident sweeper, gathering
the ball and hitting off her left and right side. Marley showed skill
in her free taking on the day. Aoife had a busy day on the pitch,
blocking everything that came her way. Aoife showed some impressive
ground hurling sending the ball flying up the pitch. This is something
we have been trying to get all the girls to do. Well done Aoife!!
Clodagh and Oliva both worked hard in midfield. Both girls helped in
the back line when they were needed and set some great passes into the
forward line. Clodagh scored a great goal in the second half. Well
done girls, keep it up.
Half forward line: Emma worked hard in centre forward and showed us
her skill in free taking, sending 5 beauties over the bar. Emma also
proved her skill hooking and blocking. Kailyn showed off her first
touch, something we have been practicing at training. Megan found
herself in the forward line, far from her usual spot in goal. Meg gave
100% and showed us a nifty side line cut, striking in the air and on
the ground.
Full forward line: Amy battled hard and won possession f the ball,
crossing it in towards the goal and showed some great first touch.
Eimear worked hard in corner forward and crosses the ball with power
towards the goal. Fiona played in the half and full forward line,
working tirelessly to keep the ball in our forward line. Fiona did
some great chasing. Both Fiona and Eimear made two great block downs.
This is another skill we are practicing at training and both girls
showed us how to do it perfectly. Huge thanks to Danielle O'Sullivan
who came up from the Under 12 to give us a hand at short notice.
Training: We had ten girls at training last Sunday; we headed to the
ball alley for the core of our training and to the pitch to finish up.
Well done to all the girls who attended. Sorry about the mix up of
times, training will continue next Sunday at 12.15pm to 1.30pm.
Well done to Marley, Clodagh, Sarah and Emma who played with Cork
Colleges last weekend. These girls are a credit to our club and also
put in 100%. Keep it up girls.
Notice to Mentors: Please give mentors adequate time of notice if your
daughter will not be available for matches. We had the bare minimum
when we travelled to Douglas and were lucky that the match could go
ahead. We are aware that players have other commitments or things pop
up but please give mentors enough time if something does come up.
Thank you.
